Accountant I

The Auto Club Group (ACG) provides membership, travel, insurance and financial services offerings to approximately 9 million members and customers across 11 states and 2 U.S. territories through the AAA, Meemic and Fremont brands. ACG belongs to the national AAA federation and is the second largest AAA club in North America.
_Primary Duties and Responsibilities (details of the basic job functions):_
Analyzes, reconciles, researches and maintains the company financial activities affecting general ledger accounts. Conducts research in order to determine implications of new products, services and changes in operating systems. Provides account receivable billings to members and vendors and responds to customer /management/vendor inquiries regarding billings/invoices, etc. Develops financial models using spreadsheet software and maintains subsidiary ledgers for company activities in accordance with statutory requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Prepares monthly analyses and reports and reconciles deposit and disbursement accounts to bank statements and corporate product systems.
Analyzes computer output/reports to determine discrepancies and errors and initiates corrective action to ensure integrity of ledger system. Verifies account balances are accurately reported and reconciled items are cleared on a timely basis. Coordinates the balancing and auditing accounting functions/transactions for multi-company/multi-state operations/regional operations and resolves reconciliation issues with business units, department and/or banks. Provides support to the modification of new and/or existing data systems to ensure compliance with area specifications and financial integrity.
May prepare audit schedules for use in internal and independent audits and assists management with the development and maintenance of job documentation and procedures.
_Preferred Qualifications:_
Knowledge of AAA Michigan/Fremont Insurance products and services
_Work Environment_
Works in a temperature controlled office environment.
_Required Qualifications (these are the minimum requirements to qualify):_
College level coursework in Accounting, Finance or Business_and_a minimum of one year work experience in an accounting or financial environment; or a Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance preferred.
Work experience (if applicable) in/with:
Basic data processing
Balancing of ledgers to support systems
Account analysis and reconciliation
Preparing bank reconciliations
Knowledge of:
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
Automated accounting systems
Spreadsheet software
Research and analyze data
Communicate effectively with others in a work environment and with the public

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
